Welcome to South Africa

South Africa, officially called the Republic of South Africa, is the southernmost nation on the African continent. This country shares borders with Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Botswana, Eswatini, Namibia, and Lesotho. South Africa is renowned for its rich history, diverse culture, and inclusivity. One of the most surprising facts about this region is that almost 30 languages are spoken, and 11 of them are the official languages. And many factors contribute to that, including historical migrations, colonial influence, the British Empire, and cultural exchange and immigration such as Indians and other groups. As a result, in 1994, the South African Government established eleven languages as the official languages of the country, and they are: Afrikaans, English, Ndebele, Pedi, Sotho, South African Sign Language, Swati, Tsonga, Tswana, Tshivenda, Xhosa, and Zulu. That is not all! South Africa also has three capital cities, which showcases its massive historical significance and cultural diversity. Thus, in 1910, during the formation of South Africa, the cities of Cape Town, Pretoria, and Bloemfontein were established as the capitals for a better power balance and accommodation of interests of different regions.

-The first capital is Pretoria. This is the administrative capital or the executive branch of the government, and it includes the president and cabinet. This city is well-known for its historical value and stunning jacaranda trees. Not only that, but there are many places you can visit in this city, such as Church Square; it is renowned as the historic heart of Pretoria and remarkable for its stunning architecture and bustling atmosphere. Pretoria National Botanical Garden is another marvelous place where you can have a serene and relaxing time.

-The second capital is Bloemfontein. This is the judicial capital, where the Supreme Court of Appeal of the country is. It is well-known for both cultural attractions and historical sights. This city is more tranquil than the other two capitals but also has many amazing places and activities to offer, such as the National Museum. In this place, you can dive deep into the history of South Africa and have a better understanding. But if you are someone who also enjoys fishing, boating, and camping, then Maselspoort Resort is the ideal place for you.

-The third capital is Cape Town. This is the legislative capital, where the parliament is located. This capital is popular for its breathtaking natural features, including Table Mountain; this iconic landmark provides a panoramic view of the city and the surrounding coast. After that, if you are a fan of penguins, then you have to visit Boulders Beach. There are hundreds of penguins on this beach, making it ideal for having a one-of-a-kind experience.

While enjoying yourself there, you should try these traditional African dishes, such as Bobotie (minced meat, species, dried fruit served with yellow rice), Biltong (air-dried meat, a popular snack in South Africa), and Melktert (pastry filled with custard-like filling).
