Romania is a country located in the central south of Eastern Europe. It is neighbors with Hungary, Ukraine, Serbia, Bulgaria, Moldova, and the Black Sea. This country is mostly notable for its medieval fortresses and castles and its natural landmarks as well. Even though many think that Romanian people are the ancient Romans. It is because this region was once controlled by the Romans, and their influence was pretty great on the people of this region; however, the Romanians are a unique and distinct group of people; a different ethnicity. Thereby, this country has been conquered by other civilizations, and each of them has left an impact on the culture, customs, and traditions of Romania. Moreover, Romania was established in 1859, and it officially gained independence in 1877 from the Ottoman Empire. As a result of its history, Romanian culture is a perfect mixture of ancient times and modern advancements.
Bucharest is the capital and largest city of Romania and it became the capital in 1862. Since then this city has been home to Romanian art, music, media, and culture. Indentically, many Romanians believe in numerous superstitions such as the evil eye and ways to protect themselves from bad luck. Not only that, but they also welcome the arrival of spring by wearing red and white jewelry or ornament. In fact, the 24th of June is as well celebrated, as they believe it brings well-being and positive energy by making floral crowns and picking wildflowers. Similarly, Romanian cuisine is a blend of all the influences and its neighboring cultures, such as Sarmale (cabbage rolls filled with minced meat), Mici (grilled minced meat), Cozonac (a sweet bread filled with nuts and cocoa), and Papanasi (fired or boiled doughnuts).
