Welcome to Oman
Oman, officially known as the Sultanate of Oman, is a country situated on the southeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It shares borders with the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen. Oman is a country that has always held an important position in the Arabic world, and this has made its history intricate and complex. For example, Oman, in ancient times, was named Magan, and that was due to it being the spot for copper trade with Mesopotamia (an area in Iraq and surrounding areas). Later, in the 7th century, Islam was brought to Oman, and it developed into a significant hub for the Ibadi branch of the religion. Even though in the 16th century it was conquered by the Portuguese, in 1650 it declared its independence from the Portuguese, and since then it has been an independent state, which makes it the oldest free country in the Arabic world. However, it was not until 1970 when Sultan Qaboos bin Said ascended to the throne that modern Oman started taking shape, and he also changed its name to the Sultanate of Oman. Nowadays, this country is known for its modern developments, stunning natural beauties, and rich culture, such as luxury resorts and cultural festivals.
Muscat is the capital and largest city in Oman and home to over 1.67 million people. This city is renowned for its genuine hospitality, which makes guests feel at home. Even though Arabic is the official language, English is also commonly spoken as a second language. Due to the population’s diversity, other languages are also spoken, including Baluchi, Swahili, and several Indian languages. There are so many charming spots to visit in Muscat, and one of them is Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. This mosque is one of the biggest mosques in the world, renowned for its elaborate design and magnificent architecture. And if you want to visit a place where you can see the rich history and legacy of the nation, then you should visit the National Museum of Oman, or if you are searching for a spot for entertainment and relaxation, you cannot miss out on Qurum Beach. Nonetheless, you might also love to immerse yourself in the culture more, thus, Mutrah Souq is the perfect spot for you. While enjoying yourself there, you should also try these Omani dishes, such as Majboos (spicy rice with chicken or meat), Mashuai (grilled kingfish with rice and lemon sauce), and Halwa (a dessert that is made with sugar, rosewater, and different spices and flavored with saffron and nuts).
