Indonesia, officially known as the Republic of Indonesia, is a country located in southeast Asia, and it shares borders with Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, East Timor, the Philippines, Australia, and Singapore. With a population of over 283 million people, Indonesia is the fourth most populated country in the world, and according to a 2018 survey, 86.7% of Indonesians identify as Muslims, making Islam the country’s most popular religion. With almost 231 million Muslims, Indonesia is the most populous Muslim-majority nation. The spread of Islam dates back to the 13th century, which was first started by the Arab Muslim traders in northern Sumatra. The struggle for independence had a long-lasting effect on Indonesians because even though in 1945 Indonesia claimed its independence, the proclamation met with conflicts with the still remaining colonial control, such as the Dutch. After four years of fighting, finally in 1949, Indonesia’s independence was recognized worldwide. Now this country is well-known for its natural beauty and beautiful culture. 

Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia, and it is also the most populous city and one of the most populated cities in the world, with a population of over 10 million residents. This city was first established in the 4th century and was a part of the Hindu Kingdom of Tarumanagara. Later, when the Dutch took control over this country, it was renamed Batavia. However, it was once again renamed Jakarta when Indonesia declared its independence in 1945 and became the capital city. This city has so many fascinating places to offer its visitors, such as the National Monument (Monas). This monument is the symbol of independence in Indonesia and is situated in Merdeka Square.
