Welcome to Austria

Austria is a country located in the center of Europe. This stunning country is a mixture of historical sights, natural beauty, and an intricate and extensive culture, as this is the result of sharing borders with eight countries: Germany, Slovakia, The Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia, Italy, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. Austria has an interesting history, which is a perfect reflection of its constant attempts toward independence and growth. After being occupied by the Roman Empire, the Holy Roman Empire, and then the Habsburg Dynasty in 1804, the Austrian Empire was established and it played a critical role in European politics, especially in the Napoleonic Wars. Even though in 1919, after World War I, this country became a republic, it was short-lived as it faced political and economic challenges. Although it later was conquered by Nazi Germany in 1938 until the end of 1945, after World War II, Austria regained its independence in 1955, and since then it is everlastingly developing and growing.

Vienna is the capital and largest city of Austria, and it is one of the most well-known cities in Europe, with a population of over 2.9 million inhabitants, which is one-third of Austria’s residents, and this makes it the fifth-largest city in Europe by population as well. This city is remarkable for its architectural beauty, history, and culture, and you can explore all three aspects the moment you take your first step into Vienna. For instance, you can visit the Schonbrunn Palace, where you can see the marvelous architecture and amazing gardens. The Albertina Museum is another iconic spot, and it is one of the largest and most crucial print rooms around the world, displaying modern art. However, if you want to dive deeper into Austria’s culture and history, then you should visit MuseumsQuartier, which is Vienna’s center for art and culture, consisting of multiple museums, galleries, and cultural organizations. The best is yet to come, as Naschmarkt is the most visited market in Vienna, with a wide selection of fresh vegetables, foreign cuisine, and unique eating options. While staying there, you can try these tasty Austrian dishes, such as Wiener Schnitzel (breaded and fried veal with lemon, potato, or parsley potato), Tafelspitz (boiled beef with horseradish, apple sauce, and chive sauce), and Sachertorte (the Austrian famous chocolate cake with a layer of apricot jam).
